I build websites, web applications, and digital systems for people with serious ideas.

I'm Ernest Serunkuma — a self-taught software engineer, creative technologist, and founder based in Kampala, Uganda. I've shipped production systems for Fortune 500 companies, led teams, and built a digital agency from nothing. I help founders, businesses, and teams turn ideas into digital products that are clear, useful, and built to move.

Biomedical Data Platform · Frontend Engineering

Angak Gene Browser — Making Complex Research Data Usable

Frontend engineering for a biomedical data exploration platform that gives researchers the ability to search genes, filter studies, explore disease areas, select experiments, manage datasets, inspect metadata, and download analysis-ready results. Built on an old-school stack (jQuery, Panini templates, CSS) but engineered with modern thinking: reusable patterns, stateful interactions, progressive filtering, and dashboard summaries. This was about making a data-heavy Python backend actually usable by scientists.

A practical, research-focused interface that brought structure and clarity to complex genomic data.

The Story

Started in Kampala with no degree, no connections, and no roadmap.

Learned to code. Built things. Got better. Kept going.

Over ten years I moved from building websites at a Kampala agency to shipping production systems at Wells Fargo and a Department of Defense project at Deloitte — not because any door was opened for me, but because the work earned the right.

I founded Kumachi Studio to build a different kind of agency: one that combines engineering depth, creative direction, and business thinking. Right now I'm back in Kampala, leading a small team, working on client projects, and building toward the next chapter.

This is a story of resilience, craft, and what is possible when you refuse to stop.
